Balancing research and family: Dr. Mary De Vera‍ ‍combines her passion for colorectal cancer research with precious moments spent with her loved ones.
I want to share my personal journey with you. In 2016, at the age of 36, I was diagnosed with early-onset colorectal cancer. This experience transformed my life in ways I never imagined, taking me from being a researcher to becoming a cancer patient, and eventually inspiring me to return to research.
In 2018, I founded the Colorectal Cancer Outcomes Research Program at the University of British Columbia. My mission is to merge research, awareness, and education about colorectal cancer, ensuring that others have access to the information and support they need.
I hope my story resonates with you and encourages you to stay informed and engaged in this important conversation.
Warm regards,
Mary De Vera, PhD
